In an interestingly weird expansion of their wackily-implemented business plan, the makers of Woot! have developed a new site that exclusively sells wine, unsurprisingly called Woot! Wine. If you’re not familiar with Woot!, well, it’s a simple idea: they buy a whole lot of a single product, post it to their site at a discount, and sell until the supply is gone. Fans like it because they get merchandise at a discount, but also because there is a certain degree of anticipation and excitement–you never know what they’ll sell next, and you want to get in on the really good deals before they’re gone. It’s kind of like the little thrill you might get when your Amazon Gold Box has a big discount on something you really want.

Wine doesn’t really fit the original Woot! brand, which is mostly devoted to technology and has a decidedly geeky (not that there’s anything wrong with that) group of fans, but if it works out, this wouldn’t be the first time we’ve seen a successful mixture of the wine and Web worlds.
